Lip Augmentation

The lips are one of the first facial features many people focus on during an initial introduction, which is why many men and women are concerned with the aesthetic appearance of their own lips, and consider a lip enhancement, or lip augmentation. At his practice, Orange County plastic surgeon Daniel C. Mills, MD, FACS uses injectable fillers to create more sensual, fuller lips for his patients.

Dermal fillers like Restylane®, or fat grafts from a patient’s own body can be injected into the lips to add more volume, contour the shape of the lips, and create a more luscious appearance. Restylane®, JUVEDERM®, and the patient’s own fat injections are useful treatment options for lip augmentation, and through the consultation process with Dr. Mills, patients will decide which option is best for them.

Lip Augmentation Procedure

facecloseupThe lip augmentation procedure typically lasts around thirty minutes, and more often than not requires little to no down time. Injections are made using ultra-thin needles, sometimes with the help of a local anesthetic to help patients feel more comfortable. Following the procedure, there may be some swelling or bruising near the treatment site, but this should dissipate quickly. Results of the lip augmentation procedure are typically immediately noticeable. Depending on which type of injection is used, results can last anywhere from three to twelve months, possibly even longer with occasional touch-up procedures from Dr. Mills.

Lip augmentation treatments are specially designed to create the beautiful looking lips that you desire. View our before and after photo gallery to view our results. Restylane®

Restylane® is one type of injectable dermal filler Dr. Mills uses at his Orange County practice for lip augmentation. As a natural, safe cosmetic dermal filler, Restylane® can be used to plump up thin lips and create a fuller appearance to enhance the overall facial aesthetic of Dr. Mills’ patients. Restylane® is approved by the FDA and has been shown to last longer than other dermal fillers. It is composed of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the human body, which means no allergy testing is required. By binding its chemicals to the patient’s natural moisture, Restylane® adds volume to the treated area. While the time of procedure depends on the number of injections, an average session lasts roughly thirty minutes. Patients are usually able to resume normal daily activities immediately following the Restylane® injections.

JUVEDERM®

JUVEDERM® is another dermal filler that is quickly increasing in popularity for patients wishing to reduce the signs of aging or enhance their facial aesthetic. With JUVEDERM® injections can add volume to a patient’s lips and provide a soft, smooth look for an extended period of time. The dermal filler is also composed of hyaluronic acid, which means there is no waiting time to determine if a patient is allergic to it. JUVEDERM® results are immediately evident, and should continue to improve over the following few days. Generally, JUVEDERM® treatments last about thirty minutes depending on the number of injections, and are made in conjunction with a local anesthetic to increase the patient’s comfort throughout the procedure. Result can be expected to last anywhere from nine to twelve months, and possibly longer with touch-up appointments at Dr. Mills’ Orange County office.

Fat Injections

With the use of fat injections during the lip augmentation procedure, patients can ensure the body’s acceptance of the fat graft because it comes from their own body. Also known as liposculpture, or fat transfer, fat injections can provide long-lasting, voluminous results to a patient’s lips. The procedure consists of removing fat cells from one part of the body, then purifying it, and finally injecting it into the treatment areas. More than one treatment may be necessary to ensure the desired results are achieved. Recovery from fat injections for lip augmentation is similar to that of JUVEDERM®, as the injection sites may produce some swelling and bruising; however, these symptoms should dissipate in the days following the procedure.
