Browlift

A surgical browlift can provide remarkable and long-lasting rejuvenation for areas of the upper face. Eyelid hooding, creases along the forehead, and a descended brow are all common concerns that can be addressed with this advanced procedure. Our board-certified plastic surgeon in Orange County, Dr. Daniel C. Mills, has performed thousands of browlift surgeries. His skills and experience with this popular treatment allow him to create results that can beautifully rejuvenate your appearance without producing a “surprised” or “overdone” look.

What Is a Browlift?

Browlift surgery, also referred to as a forehead lift, is designed to move a descended brow into a higher position and diminish the appearance of creases and lines that manifest on the forehead. As we age, the brow can progressively show signs of descending downward, resulting in sagging skin over the eyes. Indications of creases, fine lines, and prominent wrinkles along the forehead can also occur. These concerns can make individuals look perpetually angry, exhausted, and significantly older than they may actually be. Browlift surgery can ultimately create a smoother, more refreshed appearance and have a very positive aesthetic effect on the upper face.

What Are the Benefits of a Browlift/Forehead Lift?

There are many advantages offered by browlift surgery, and this procedure can be a good option for both women and men. Some of the potential benefits of this treatment include:

Browlift surgery can be a very effective procedure on its own, or it can be performed along with facelift or eyelid surgery to achieve more comprehensive facial rejuvenation. Dr. Mills will talk with you about your unique needs and goals during the initial consultation and help you determine whether browlift surgery is ideal for your expectations. If so, he will develop a customized treatment plan designed to provide exemplary results.

What Does Browlift Surgery Involve?

A browlift typically involves incisions very carefully and discreetly placed in the hair, followed by lifting of the brow and rejuvenation of the area in accordance with the customized treatment plan. Dr. Mills will talk with you about all aspects of the procedure during the initial consultation so you will know what to expect.

For patients who are affected by furrows and frown lines (“glabellar lines”) between the brows in addition to a descended brow or forehead creases, browlift surgery can be combined with an injectable treatment such as BOTOX® Cosmetic to address those concerns. BOTOX® injections have proven highly effective at diminishing signs of brow furrows for a smoother appearance.

Browlift surgery is typically performed on an outpatient basis. Once your treatment plan is created, we will provide you with detailed pre-operative and post-operative information to give you a good idea of what can be expected during the process.

What Is Recovery from Browlift Surgery Like?

Many patients are able to return to work and other normal daily routines about three days after the browlift procedure. Some degree of temporary swelling and bruising in the treatment area can be expected. Post-operative discomfort can be alleviated with pain medication. It is often recommended that patients sleep with their head at an elevated level for several days following the browlift procedure to aid blood flow. A member of our medical team will give you thorough recovery instructions that can help you achieve a safe and effective healing process.

How Long Does a Browlift Last?

While each individual will experience unique results from browlift surgery depending on their anatomical characteristics, many patients can enjoy the positive effects of this procedure for several years. With a healthy diet, a good skin care regimen, and avoidance of smoking, the results of browlift surgery can last well into the future. Surgical browlifts offer an effective, long-term solution for upper facial rejuvenation without having to undergo injectable procedures such as BOTOX® Cosmetic every four to five months to address forehead concerns!

Will I Have Visible Browlift Scars?

The surgical techniques typically utilized by Dr. Mills often result in minimal scarring that is often virtually unnoticeable to others. Browlift surgery is particularly beneficial in this regard since the incisions are typically placed in areas where scarring can be easily concealed beneath the hair. In cases where browlift is considered by individuals with receding hairlines, Dr. Mills can discuss the possibility of creating incisions in inconspicuous locations that should yield scars that are barely visible.

Is a Non-Surgical Browlift Possible?

While an injectable treatment such as BOTOX® Cosmetic can temporarily diminish signs of creases and furrows between the brows, it is important to note that there is currently no non-surgical procedure that can address the same types of concerns as effectively—or with results that last as long—as browlift surgery. A so-called “browlift with BOTOX®” does offer a non-surgical alternative for patients who are primarily concerned with glabellar lines between the brows or creases along the forehead, and who are not expecting results to last more than three or four months. With that in mind, individuals who are looking to improve a sagging brow and those who would like more long-lasting rejuvenation are typically better served with browlift surgery. Once Dr. Mills talks with you about your needs and goals during the initial consultation, he can help you determine whether browlift surgery or another treatment is more ideal.

How Much Does a Browlift Cost?

Browlift surgery with Dr. Mills ranges from $7000-$10,000. The price includes fees for the surgeon, operating facility, and anesthesia. For any browlift procedure, costs that go into the total price include the surgeon’s fee, facility/anesthesia fees, the technique utilized, whether other procedures are included in the treatment plan, and other factors. Once your treatment program is created during the initial consultation, our patient care coordinator will produce an estimate of the total cost, which will include all associated expenses.
