Dr. Mills Offers Tips for Healthy Lifestyle and Lasting Beauty

At the 2011 annual meeting of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) in Boston, Orange County plastic surgeon Dr. Dan Mills presented his approach to helping patients achieve and maintain beauty for a lifetime. The Beauty for Life Pyramid promotes building a good foundation for beauty with a healthy lifestyle and good skin care, and then adding minimally invasive procedures. Dr. Mills says this combination of preventative measures such as healthy living and skin care with minimally-invasive procedures such as Ultherapy and chemical peels creates the best opportunity for great and long lasting results when it’s time for a surgical solution.

At his Laguna Beach plastic surgery practice, Dan Mills, MD focuses on the longevity of his patients’ beauty by applying the Beauty for Life Treatment Plan. Developed by Dr. Mills and recently presented at the 2011 meeting of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), the Beauty for Life plan presents patients of the Aesthetic Plastic Surgical Institute with a visual guide to maintaining their beauty through a combination of preventative measures, noninvasive procedures, and surgical procedures such as the facelift, breast lift, or thigh lift.

The first tier of the Beauty for Life Treatment Plan pyramid is healthy living, which Dr. Mills says is the most important element to beauty inside and out. “Taking care of the basics such as lifestyle are the foundation for looking your best your entire life; the Beauty Pyramid is simply a new tool that communicates the importance of healthy living as it relates to a lifetime of beauty.”

While healthy living can help patients maintain their natural beauty, Dr. Mills stresses that aging is simply a fact of life, therefore unavoidable. By treating areas of the body and face that commonly show signs of aging, Dr. Mills says he and his team can help their patients preserve their natural beauty through the five-tiered approach of the Beauty for Life Pyramid.

Ultimately, Dr. Mills says the approach to lasting beauty presented in the pyramid is the foundational philosophy for patient care that guides the Aesthetic Plastic Surgical Institute’s pursuits. However, Dr. Mills adds that the Beauty for Life Pyramid is accessible through the practice’s website to anyone who wants to manage their beauty care. “We make the pyramid available online because we believe everyone deserves to look and feel their best.”

Kelly’s Experience with the Weight Loss Program

Before I started the weight loss program my triglcyerides were 224. Normal range is less than 150. Ouch, I know, and my HDL was 65 normal range is 40-60 but above is better. I just did labwork this last week and my triglcerides went down to 101 and my HDL went up to 89. So I thought giving some education might help the general public.

Triglycerides are a type of fat found in your blood. Normal range is less than 150. Your body uses them for energy. You need some triglycerides for good health, but triglycerides can raise your risk of heart disease. High triglcerides are usually caused by other conditions such as OBESITY, poorly controlled diabetes, underactive thyroid, kidney disease, eating more calories then you burn and drinking a lot of alcohol.

HDL or high density lipoprotein is commonly referred to as “good cholesterol”. HDL levels in the body are supposed to be fairly high. HDL helps excess cholesterol return to the liver for excretion through gastrointestinal system. HDL is good because it aids in the removal of cholesterol that can block arteries and reduce blood flow. Smoking, OBESITY, and sedentary activities are directly linked to low blood HDL levels. WEIGHT LOSS, smoking cessation and exercise will raise HDL levels.

Please contact us if you have any questions about the weight loss program.

Living a Healthy Lifestyle – The Effects of Smoking and the Environment on Your Skin

The dangers of smoking, unhealthy lifestyles, and stress are well-known, but many people may not realize just how much certain environmental factors can affect the appearance of your skin, making you look older than you really are. In a recent article by Patricia Beard on aging research in twins for Elle magazine, the following photos appeared, depicting a pair of twins photographed on the same day. One woman had been a smoker, a social drinker, spent years in the California sun, and had battled depression. The other limited her sun exposure and never smoke or drank.

Many factors can be attributable to wrinkles and fine lines, including the natural process of aging, the effects of the sun’s rays, stress, and smoking. Dr. Dan C. Mills emphasizes a holistic health approach at his plastic surgery practice, letting patients know that cosmetic enhancement procedures can be even more effective on patients who live healthy lifestyles and take care of their skin. Dr. Mills’ Healthy Living Pyramid includes lots of attention paid to:

  • Nutrition
  • Sleep
  • Stress Relief
  • Sun Protection
  • Antioxidants
  • Weight Loss
  • Smoking Cessation

If you take care of your health on a daily basis, you’d be amazed at how long you can keep the effects of aging and the environment at bay!
